At Gordon Multimedia, we specialize in hosting and maintaining WordPress websites. Approximately 90% of our clients’ sites are hosted and maintained on our systems. If you’re deciding whether or not to have us host and maintain your site, here is a comparison of how we measure up to a big national company.
We’re going to use GoDaddy for comparison sake. First of all, we’d like to say that we highly recommend GoDaddy as a quality company where we prefer our clients register their domain names. Their domain servers are among the fastest in the business and their customer support is hard to beat. It’s easy to get a human on the phone with hardly a wait. In comparison to other domain registrars, they are by far the best from our experience.
When it comes to WordPress hosting, GoDaddy has some very attractive plans from a price perspective. At a glance, it looks like their hosting might cost as little as $9 per month. Look a little closer and you’ll see that the price goes up after the first year. As of this writing, GoDaddy’s plan that most closely matches our Silver Hosting Plan is their Ultimate WordPress Hosting Plan which costs $20 per month. When you compare that to our $75 per month Silver Plan, your natural question would be, “What am I getting for $55 more per month with Gordon Multimedia?”
Here’s where you need to take a closer look. Both of our plans include updating the software regularly, secure certificates, etc. So where’s the difference? Gordon Multimedia’s plans are what’s called managed WordPress hosting. This means that we will also go into your dashboard to troubleshoot problems, help you post content, provide you with tech support if you’re editing your site, and we’re constantly familiar with your site, so you don’t have to re-explain to a stranger on the helpline how things work each time you have a question.
In addition, and here’s the big difference, if you need someone to troubleshoot a problem or go into your WordPress site to help you, you have to pay an additional fee at GoDaddy. Take a look at their Premium Support page to find the pricing for these services which are not included in their hosting/maintenance prices. If you were to subscribe to their most basic of premium support plans, it would add $50 per month to your cost, bringing the monthly cost at GoDaddy to $70 per month minimum, which matches our pricing.
